2026 Feels Like a Pivot Year

I’m not someone who typically follows numerology or zodiac signs.

But lately, I’ve been noticing something interesting about 2026. It feels like a pivot year.

The traditional job market has been challenging for many people. At the same time, I’m seeing something different happening among my entrepreneur friends. People are moving with the changes — starting new projects, launching businesses, and sometimes closing old chapters to make room for new ones.

That can be both exciting and daunting.

But in a world where everything seems to be changing quickly — technology, AI, the economy, politics — I believe one thing more than ever:

You have to be ready to pivot. And you have to keep learning.

A Career Built on Screens — and Why I Value the Opposite

As a digital marketing and social media consultant, most of the work I do revolves around communication through screens. I spend my days helping companies build visibility online, share ideas, and connect with audiences digitally.

That’s exactly why two of the projects I’m currently involved with feel especially meaningful.

One of them many of you already know about: The Black Bass Lodge (www.theblackbasslodge.com), a remote fishing lodge located far from the noise and pace of city life.

Yes, we do have Starlink there, so people can stay connected if they need to. But the truth is, most guests come for the opposite reason — to unplug.

They come to experience something many of us rarely see anymore:
a sky full of stars without city lights, the sound of the ocean instead of traffic, and the quiet that only comes when you step away from constant notifications.

It’s a reminder that sometimes the most valuable thing technology can give us… is the ability to step away from it.

The Power of Real-World Connection

At the same time, I’ve been reading more articles about how disconnected people feel and how social isolation is increasing. And of course, there’s the constant conversation about AI and automation and what it means for the future of work.

Yet one of the startups I recently started helping with is centered around something very human: pickleball.

If you’ve played, you probably understand why it’s become so popular so quickly.

It’s social.
It’s active.
And it brings people together.

Tennis legend Andre Agassi has even described pickleball as a “transformative” sport in his life. He’s said it filled a huge gap and became a powerful way to connect with friends and family.

In a world that often pulls us further into digital spaces, it’s fascinating to see a sport explode in popularity precisely because it gets people off their phones and onto a court together.

Maybe the Timing Isn’t Random

Even though I don’t usually follow numerology or zodiac signs, it’s interesting that some people describe 2026 as a year of powerful beginnings.

In the Chinese zodiac,  2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse,  beginning February 17. The Horse symbolizes independence, speed, and energy — and when combined with the Fire element, it represents a period of rapid change and bold action.

Numerologists also describe 2026 as a Universal Year 1, a time associated with new beginnings and setting the foundation for the next nine-year cycle.

Whether you believe in those systems or not, it’s hard to ignore that many people seem to be stepping into new directions right now.

New businesses.
New ideas.
New chapters.

Embracing the Pivot

Change can feel uncomfortable, especially when it happens quickly. But it can also be energizing.
Sometimes closing one door makes room for something far more aligned with where you’re headed.

Sometimes stepping away from the screen reminds you what actually matters.

And sometimes a new hobby, project, or idea becomes the unexpected thing that reconnects you with others.

So I’m curious:

How is 2026 feeling for you so far?

Are you experiencing changes in your own life or career?
Are you resisting them — or embracing the pivot?

Because if this really is a year of new beginnings, it might just be the perfect time to start something new.
